Cheesy Egg Fondue

So I know that microwave fondue basically constitutes sacrilege, in every sense, but sometimes you come home and all you want to eat is delicious, gooey, melt-y cheese. That was me last night.

Last year, my roommate figured out how to make microwave Eggy-in-a-basket (basically a fried egg in toast). This recipe builds off of that one.

Cheesy Egg Fondue

  • 1 egg
  • 2 slices of bread
  • brie cheese

Begin by toasting the bread. You can toast it to whatever brown-ness you like, but I find the bread stays crisper in the microwave if you toast it a little longer.

Once the bread is toasted, cut a large rectangle out of one piece of toast. Place the  cut toast on top of the uncut toast. You should have a very rough bread bowl, as it were.

Crack the egg and pour it into the bread bowl. Microwave for about 30 seconds. While that’s cooking, cut a few slices of brie (thinner works better). After the 30 seconds is up, place the slices of brie over the half-cooked egg. Microwave for another 20 seconds, or until the cheese is gooey. Enjoy!
